You asked for it: BLOGGING CONTEST
Hey everyone!
The Video Contest helped us learn new communication skills and how to build videos!
Now, let’s improve our blogging skills, learn about other blogging platforms, and do some good!
So, ready to have some blogging fun?
I’m talking about a CONTEST FOR BLOGGERS – based on creating a blog for FanBox -- outside of FanBox!
This time, there will be TEN (10) WINNERS:
First place gets $1,000Second place gets $500Third place gets $2504th place through 10th place EACH get $50
BLOGGING CONTEST RULES
1) Create a blog for FanBox on Blogger.com, Wordpress.com, TypePad.com, Tumblr.com or any other blogging site
-- Your blog needs to be about your FanBox experience, and/or the WHY behind FanBox
-- Your blog can have as many posts as you like (and you can have multiple blogs, if you like).
-- You can definitely copy and paste from your current FanBox Blogs (you don’t need to create new posts if you don’t want to)
-- You can include other people's YouTube videos, and content (text / images) from other people’s blogs – so long as you give them credit; link to their profiles and/or blog posts; and assuming they don’t mind.
(Most people will not mind, but if they ever ask you to take it down, you must do so immediately).
2) Post your blog’s URL in your FanBox feed so all your fans and friends on FanBox can visit it – and ask them to leave meaningful (relevant) comments there.
NOTE: Do NOT send your blog URL around FanBox using email: That is SPAM!
(Also, please don’t send it to me. Send it to Jenny Lee – see #3 below)
Instead, use your FanBox feed or even FanBox blog posts to send your URL around.
3) Send the login credentials (email and password) for your NON-FANBOX blog to Jenny Lee.
You are giving Jenny permission to modify your blog post: Help you out by fixing your English spelling and grammar issues, count unique commenters, add links, etc.
Remember, as part of this contest, you are building this blog for FanBox – so please build a new blog (outside FanBox) just for this contest; whose login credentials you don’t mind sharing with FanBox.
4) You are definitely allowed to place links to other people’s (your fans and friends) blog posts. This will help them get more comments. Be sure to encourage them to link to your blog posts too.
5) The most important part: Have fun!
So, how will the winner be selected?
By judges.
Yes, this time we will have judges, and they will be anonymous, to avoid any issues.
(Hey, we’re learning from the video contest)!
The judges will look at:
A -- your passion, creativity and ability to describe the WHY behind FanBox
B -- how many unique comments your blog got (from different, real people)
Again, there will be TEN (10) WINNERS:
1st place gets $1,0002nd place gets $5003rd place gets $2504th place through 10th place EACH get $50
When does the contest START, and END?
It starts NOW.It ends on January 15th.
(Of course, the judges reserve the right to modify these dates or anything else about the contest, but hopefully there will be no reason to).
Why blog on outside sites (instead of doing it on FanBox)?
By using other sites outside of FanBox, it will teach us a community what else is out there, and what we can learn from those products.
When you see good things on those sites that you wish we had on FanBox, send your ideas to Jenny Lee.
We’ll gather those ideas, prioritize them, and use them to improve FanBox!
(A fantastic way to figure out what products you want our engineers to build!)
By using other sites (outside of FanBox) it will also allow non-members to learn about our knowledge revolution.
So, to summarize the rules:
1) Build a blog on a different blogger site
a. Make it about the WHY behind FanBox, or about your FanBox experience
b. You can copy and paste anything you already have written about FanBox
c. You can use YouTube videos that you or others have created about FanBox
d. You can use other people's content as long as they do not mind
2) Send your URL to your friends and fans using your FanBox feed or blog (not email)
3) Send your blog’s URL and login info to Jenny Lee. (Don’t send it to me).
4) Link to your friends blogs, and ask them to link to yours (and leave meaningful / relevant comments in your blog)
5) For God’s sake, don’t forget to have fun!
When you see cool features on those web sites, be sure to tell Jenny Lee:
You know what will help Jenny Lee? Taking a screenshot of your screen and sending it to her, so she can more easily understand what your idea is. Here’s an easy way to send screenshots to Jenny Lee: www.TinyPic.com
My recommendation: Even after you send your login link to Jenny Lee, constantly go back and improve your blog posts, and check on the comments people are leaving!
This is much easier than the video contest:
It’s easier because you don’t need to know how to create videos!
Many of you already have posts about FanBox – just copy and paste!
That’s right - you can have your first blog submitted within 15 minutes from now!
(You can constantly go back and update your blog – so there’s no harm in creating a simple blog, then improving it as you go).
So what are you waiting for?
Launch your contest blog!
(Just first please read the green text below for a simple favor I am asking of YOU).
-JC
PS: A personal favor I ask of YOU:
Yes, I am talking to YOU!
(No, not everyone else... but YOU):
Please, PLEASE, PLEASE do not make this contest something we will all regret.
Please simply follow the rules; and do not send unnecessary emails to Jenny Lee or myself - forcing us to repeat things over and over again, in emails to you - things that are mentioned above.
Already, the emails have begun. :( :( :(
Look: We simply do not have the ability to give everyone personal attention regarding this matter. Pleade try and be courteous and read the instructions, and if you want to, by all means participate. However, if its too complicated, or you don't like the rules, or have better ideas as to how to run the contest, or have most other questions, simply sit this one out, and maybe participate in a future contest.
If this gets out of hand, where it is disrupting the other things we need to accomplish to serve the community, we will be forced to cancel the contest.
Thanks in advance for your understanding.
